FAQ

What is Taekwon-Do?

Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art developed between 1946  and 1955 by Gen. Choi, Hong Hi.  “Tae” means to kick, “Kwon” means to punch and “Do” means the Art or Way.  Said simply, Taekwon-Do is the art of kicking and punching.  But more than that, Taekwon-Do is a way of life based on our tenets of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.

What are the benefits of Taekwon-Do training?

Members of AZ KICKS Taekwon-Do program experience a wide range of results.  Children see improvement in self-discipline, confidence, respect and grades.  Adult members develop strength, coordination and flexibility, an improved ability to deal with stress, increased energy and learn practical self-defense techniques.

Do I need to be in shape before I begin training?

Many people believe that you have to be fit to learn Taekwon-Do.  However, this is not true.  All you need is the desire to learn and the desire to be the best that you can be mentally and physically.  Many people that start Taekwon-Do are out of shape, but after a few months they notice a significant increase in strength, stamina, flexibility and coordination.

How old do you have to be to start?

Members can join AZ KICKS as young as the age of 4.

Do you have adult classes?

Yes, we offer classes that are age and rank specific.

How often are classes?

Students are to attend classes twice per week.  If you cannot attend your scheduled class, you can attend the make-up class on Saturdays.  If you must miss classes for a longer period of time, it is your responsibility to train extra before and after the absence to stay current.

Do you offer private instruction?

Yes we do.  We offer private instruction as a supplement (not a replacement) to regular training.  For example if a student would like extra time with an instructor to prepare for testing or competition.
